Jewelry Care Guidelines
When you’re wearing your jewelry…
Be mindful of your gemstones
Be mindful of your gemstones: Gemstones vary in hardness and sensitivity. Some are more prone to damage or scratches. Avoid knocking or hitting your jewelry against hard surfaces. We recommend wearing your rings on fingers that don’t touch each other, so that gemstones don’t rub against each other causing abrasions, chips, or cracks.
Avoid excessive sunlight and heat
Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or extreme heat can cause gemstones to fade in color or become damaged.
Avoid harsh chemicals: Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners to clean your jewelry, as they may damage the metal or gemstones.
Remove jewelry when necessary: Take off your jewelry before engaging in activities like swimming, exercising, cleaning, or applying beauty products (such as lotion, perfume, or hairspray). Exposure to chemicals and sweat can damage certain metals and gemstones. Most jewelry is not meant for constant wear, so remove as necessary.
Be mindful when layering or stacking jewelry: Jewelry is designed to be worn, but how it is styled over time shapes its longevity. Jewelry hitting another piece of jewelry can cause dents, scratches, loose stones, and other damage. Over time, this contact may lead to scratches, or, in more delicate stones, chipping. We recommend adding plain spacer bands or plain bracelets to your stacks to help protect each piece.

When you’re not wearing your jewelry…
Clean jewelry regularly
- Jewelry with gold and diamonds: We recommend using a Juli Brush or
soft-bristle toothbrush with mild soap and lukewarm water to restore
brilliance. - Jewelry with colored gemstones: We recommend using a soft
microfiber cloth to gently clean the surface. Colored stones are often
more delicate than diamonds, and we do not recommend harsh scrubbing
or soaking. - For a deeper clean: If you think your jewelry needs a deeper clean,
please reach out to clientservices@serpentinejewels.com to have your
jewelry professionally cleaned.
Check for loose stones
Periodically check for loose stones or prongs in settings. If you
notice any issues, or hear a stone moving in its setting, please get in touch with us at
clientservices@serpentinejewels.com for repair options.
Store jewelry properly
When not wearing your jewelry, store it in a clean, dry, and
soft-lined jewelry box or a compartmentalized organizer to prevent scratching and tangling. Store jewelry away from windows and heating vents. Ensure the space is secure, and that your insurance is up-to-date. We recommend keeping your jewelry pieces separated to avoid tangling and scratching. Our Jewelry Pouch has many compartments for this purpose!
